The name Elie Saab conjures up images of frothy, couture-quality creations for the red carpet, but the Lebanese-born designer has begun to work with more down-to-earth (but by no means less gorgeous) creations for the in-between seasons. Resort 2015 sees Saab playing with colors so delicious that the collection reads confection. Creamy bone-white separates, halter-neck jumpsuits, and sweet gowns open the presentation, but the palette moves through a range of colors thereafter, including buttery yellow, pale mint, dusty pink, taupe, rose, and jet black. A fitted silhouette that hugs at the waist and flares at the hips adds flattery to Saab’s feminine looks, resulting in clothes that are sensual without being tawdry.
Knotted accents, peplum, lace paneling, thigh-high slits, and beading bring a vintage flair to his beautiful garments, but Saab’s firm grasp on modernity keeps the looks from slipping into the realm of predictability. One dusty-pink dress is so fitted to the model that it looks like it was molded onto her frame. Fitted trenches read like dresses, especially when given rippling peplum accents, while ombré fur toppers and wraps elevate the luxury quality of the collection. For Resort 2015, expect Saab’s signature take on flattering, feminine looks, but this time with a sense of practicality that extends beyond the red carpet.
